Afrofusion star Burna Boy appears on a remarkable cut from the ‘Queen & Slim’ soundtrack, sampling the iconic Fela Kuti on “My Money, My Baby”.
‘My Money, My Baby’ comes courtesy of Queen & Slim: The Soundtrack, which arrived on Friday, two weeks ahead of the film’s US release. It features original songs from Lauryn Hill, Blood Orange, Vince Staples, Syd and much more. Among the prestigious guest list, we find Burna Boy on “My Money, My Baby”, that features a noticeable sample of Fela Kuti‘s 1972 song ‘Shakara’.
Burna Boy stays true to Fela’s style, singing in repetition giving a faithful tribute to the original. Burna already sampled the afrobeat pioneer in his breakout single ‘Ye’, from his 2018 album Outside.
Queen & Slim, directed by Melina Matsoukas hits theaters on November 27 in the United States and January 2020 in the UK.
